Estimados miembros de la Asociación Canadiense de Hispanistas:
Desde FILibro Canadá nos complace invitar a los miembros de la Asociación Canadiense de Hispanistas a visitar la VIII Feria Iberoamericana del Libro en Canadá (FILibro Canadá) 2026, que se celebrará en Ottawa durante el mes de octubre, en el marco del Mes de la Herencia Latinoamericana en Canadá y del Mes de la Herencia Hispana en Ontario.
En esta octava edición, FILibro reunirá a más de 95 escritores, editores y gestores culturales, representantes de 15 embajadas y una programación de 34 eventos literarios, consolidándose como un importante espacio de encuentro entre Canadá y el mundo iberoamericano.
Para quienes trabajan en el ámbito del hispanismo, la feria ofrece una oportunidad especial para encontrarse con autores, conocer nuevas publicaciones, descubrir propuestas editoriales y participar en conversaciones sobre literatura, lengua y cultura en español.
La programación incluye presentaciones de libros, conversaciones con autores, actividades culturales y familiares, además de una exhibición de caricaturas del reconocido escritor y caricaturista uruguayo Jaime Clara y la proyección de un documental dedicado a Ida Vitale, una de las grandes voces de la literatura en español.
Los visitantes podrán además recorrer una muestra de miles de libros en español, francés, inglés y portugués, y conocer el trabajo de autores y editoriales vinculados a las comunidades iberoamericanas en Canadá.
Nos encantaría contar con la presencia de los miembros de la Asociación Canadiense de Hispanistas y compartir con ustedes este espacio dedicado a la literatura, la lengua española y el intercambio cultural.

16th Annual Latin American and Spanish Film Week en Cinecenta (Victoria, BC)
La Hispanic Film Society of Victoria, presidida por el Prof. Dan Russek de la Universidad de Victoria, los invita al 16th Annual Latin American and Spanish Film Week del 23 al 27 de septiembre en el campus de la Universidad. El evento incluye cinco películas, una sesión de preguntas y respuestas con la directora del documental ¡Las Sandinistas! (2018), Jenny Murray, una discusión grupal después de la proyección de la película Marco, la verdad inventada (2024) de Aitor Arregi y Jon Garaño, y un concierto de música titulado “A Night of Latin American Folk”, con la participación del Mariachi sin Frontera, el pianista cubano Pablo Cárdenas y Robin Layne & the Rhythm Makers. Position Profile: The Department of Languages, Cultures, and Linguistics (LCL) in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Western University invites applications for a full-time Teaching Scholar position in Linguistics with defined responsibilities in the Spanish language program at the rank of Assistant Professor for a probationary Teaching Scholar (TS). Appointments made at the rank of Assistant Professor will lead to consideration of continuing status and promotion to Associate Professor, TS at the end of the probationary period (maximum 6 years).
The successful candidate will provide instructional and educational leadership in Linguistics and Spanish, contributing to undergraduate and graduate teaching while advancing excellence in teaching and learning through curriculum development, pedagogical innovation, educational leadership, and evidence-informed instructional practices. This position will strengthen the department's teaching capacity, enhance curricular flexibility, support graduate teaching and supervision, and contribute to the continued development of high-quality, sustainable academic programs. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting undergraduate enrolment across multiple programs while helping to shape the future of teaching and learning within the Department of Languages, Cultures, and Linguistics.
Academic Expectations: The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in university teaching and a commitment to innovative, student-centred pedagogy. They will contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in Linguistics and Spanish (Hispanic Studies), while
advancing teaching and learning through curriculum development, educational leadership, and evidence-informed instructional practices.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in phonetics and phonology, as well as other core areas of linguistics (e.g., morphology, syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics, and related fields), together with Spanish language courses. They will also
contribute to graduate teaching and supervision, develop and revise curriculum, create innovative instructional materials, and foster inclusive, equitable, accessible, and engaging learning environments.
Qualifications and Experience: Applicants must possess a PhD in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Hispanic Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or a closely related discipline by the date of appointment. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English, with excellent written and oral communication skills, is required.
The successful candidate will have an outstanding record of university teaching and demonstrate expertise appropriate to teaching undergraduate courses in phonetics and phonology, as well as other core areas of linguistics (e.g., morphology, syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics, and related fields), together with communicative, evidence-informed approaches to second language teaching and learning. They will have experience designing and revising curriculum, developing instructional materials, implementing innovative teaching practices, and contributing to graduate teaching and supervision.
Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments and supporting student success through effective, student-centered pedagogy. The successful candidate will also demonstrate experience and expertise relevant to the Department's teaching needs, including teaching large undergraduate courses in online, in-person, and/or blended learning environments; integrating educational technologies into linguistics and/or language instruction; and designing, coordinating, or supporting experiential learning opportunities.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an active program of scholarship appropriate to a Teaching Scholar appointment, with evidence of contributions that advance teaching and learning through educational leadership, curriculum development, pedagogical innovation, and engagement with the scholarship of teaching and learning. Evidence of scholarship may include curriculum development and evaluation, educational leadership, pedagogical innovation, the scholarship of teaching and learning, mentoring, presentations, publications, or research related to linguistics, language learning, language pedagogy, or effective instructional practices.
Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to academic service appropriate to a Teaching Scholar appointment through collaboration in curriculum and program development, student mentorship, and participation in departmental, Faculty, and University initiatives. We seek a collaborative, collegial, and student-centered educator who will contribute positively to the academic community within the Department of Languages, Cultures, and Linguistics.
Compensation Details: $110,000 to $125,000
